We can boast two of are members, Peter and Tanya are in the Olympics (OK not as competitors) and also Peter' wife and my wife are Games Maker.
In Peter's words: "Our job was, after the athletes went through security, to give them accreditation (passes) which they had to wear on a lanyard everywhere they went. We met or saw some famous people, Kath checked in Maria Sharapova, which made the men on the team jealous. When the GB football team came in with Ryan Giggs there was an amazing buzz of excitement and our swimmers also came in at the same time, Rebecca Adlington being with them. We saw Clive Woodwood several times - he would meet & greet all the UK team, so we knew that if he was around some more of our 530 athletes were coming through to us for passes. Also passing through was Victoria Pendelton & Chris Hoy".

Graham West successfully completed the 10 mile Snowdon Fell Race in 1hr 52. Just the one hill. Weather was great, summer came just in time, could actually see further than a metre at the top. 8mins slower than last year, struggling a bit from half way up. Problem is whilst it is a relief to get to the top the descent is just as challanging as the ascent, lost count of how many runners came past me but I did manage to remain upright all the way down, which is actually quite a challenge in itself. Don't know how some of the runners can go down the hill like they do, pointy rocks, loose shale, big boulders all in a 3,500 feet drop in 5miles.

Just to a change here is a picture of someone with bikes instead of running. Well done to Peter and Tanya for completing this 170 mile bike ride over 3 days for the Alzheimer's Society.
In Peter's word:
Well we did it, 170 miles Coast to Coast.
- Day one 55 miles - Starting at Workington with the traditional dipping of our bikes in the sea. The weather was cold & wet, cycling through wonderful countryside, passing Lake Windermere via Derwentwater with some very steep hills & on to our first overnight stop at Kendal.
- Day two, 54 miles, the weather was a lot warmer & the sun actually came out!!! We cycled through the Yorkshire National Park & it was very hilly again to our second overnight stop at Richmond.
- Day three, 61 miles, our longest day, weather cold & misty & very very hilly through the Dales & North Yorkshire Moors to the finish at Sandsend near Whitby
This trip was very well organised by the Alzheimer's Society with the help of Discovery Adventure. There were 33 cyclists doing this challenge & between us we have raised £30,000.00 so far. We would like to thank those of you who sponsored us & for those who haven't it's not too late on www.justgiving.com/tanya-edmondson orwww.justgiving.com/petetherunnerandcyclist

This was cancelled due to heavy rain the day before causing some flooding on the course. Uckfield Lions hope to re-arrange for September.
