Bexhill 5k Weds evening

Details
Created: 26 July 2017

There was a good turnout for the evening Bexhill 5k with eight Uckfield Runners, in spite of sub ideal weather of strong winds and rain: now what I was expecting for a July evening run.  Medals were bright and summary even if the weather was not.  Seaside so had to be fish and chips afterwards but we opted for the eating in rather than the planned fish and chips on the beach.  Running from Uckfield Richard Coates 20:14, Graham West 20:18 (3rd VM55), Stewart Gasson 22:03, Jason Remington 22:41, Chris Lugg 23:35, Catherine Harker 24:22, Sam Kedwards 26:12, Michael Hill 30:14 (PB)

Uckfield 10k (off road)

It was hot day for the Uckfield 10k this year on Sunday 9 July.  The event is run by Uckfield and District Lions with Uckfield Runners helping to promote the event, set it up and assisting with Marshalling.  The event starts at Uckfield Rugby Club and is mainly run throught Buxted Park over and undulating route.  Eight of our runners ran the Event, Max Williams, Andy Taylor, Graham West, Sarah Patience, Chris Lugg, Tosca Anstis, Michael Hill and Charlotte Munro.  Richard Page marked out the course and assisted with marshalling, Jo Thornton and Dayle Bryant manned the drink station whilst Sam Kedwards (assisted by Phoebe and Tess) handed out the finishers medals.

On Saturday we had a pitch on the Uckfield Big Day Out (last picture to right) to promote the club.  The pitch was manned by Graham West, Lorriane West, Tosca Anstis, Samantha Kedwards, Chris Lugg and Michael Hill at various times during the day.  We spoke to about 25 people interested in the club so hopefully we will see some new comers over the next two or three weeks.

Heathfield 10k and Club BBQ

Details
Created: 25 June 2017

Today was the Heathfield 10k in the morning and the club BBQ in the afternoon.  Heathfield is a Sussex Grand Prix event and a very hilly course, pretty much 5k down hill and 5k back up.  We don't let a few hills put us off so good to see 11 turn up from the club.  In the afternoon it was very pleasant day for the annual club BBQ.

Bedgebury Parkrun and Seaford Triple Challenge

Details
Created: 11 June 2017

The Uckfield Runners parkrunners were on tour on Saturday, with eight of our runners visiting Bedgebury Pinetum Parkrun near Goudhurst (first two pictures) as a change from our normal Parkrun at Shinewater Eastbourne.  This was a very scenic location passing a lake on the way to the start.   Following a briefing for new runners to the event but the race director Liz we set off the with an undulating route through the Pine Forest.  The route was well marked and marshalled and the surface good underfoot and the sun came out without being too hot.  The run was followed but well earned tea/coffee and cake outside the cafe by the lake.  A very enjoyable start to the weekend.  Running from Uckfield were, Graham West  21:13 (1st V55, 5th overall), Chris Lugg 26:36, Sara Patience 34:18, Charlotte Lade 37.16, Phoebe Kedwards (age 8) 38:41 (first 5k run), Samantha Kedwards 38:43, Lauren Scordilis 43:42 and Lorraine West 50:47.

Graham and Lauren were also out on Sunday for the Seaford Triple Challenge (second two pictures).  Graham ran the half marathon finishing second in 1hr 40:49 whilst Lauren completed the 30 mile cycle ride.  This was an off road evetn starting on Seaford Sea front and going up on the downs to Firle Beacon and Bo Beep.  It was thick fog at the top as you will see from the picture below, they had marked the route with blue flags, at times you could just make out the next blue flag and head towards it hoping you would then see the next blue flag: the views would have been great if you could see more than 10 metres.  It was a good event though.  On the last picture you can see Lauren in the back ground.
